Dream Catchers

In Native American culture, a dreamcatch is a handmade object based on a willow hoop, on which is woven a loose net or web. The dreamcatcher is then decorated with personal and sacred items such as feathers and beads.

A "dream-catcher", hung above the bed, and was as a charm to protect sleeping people from nightmares.

Nightmares pass through the holes and out of the window. The good dreams are trapped in the web, and then slide down the feathers to the sleeping person.

We made our own dreamcatchers.

Totem Poles

We have been studying the Native Americans. In groups we used pictographs to decorate our own totem poles.
The meanings of the designs on totem poles are as varied as the cultures that make them. Totem poles may recount familiar legends, clan lineages, or notable events. Some poles celebrate cultural beliefs, but others are mostly artistic presentations.

Gaelic Football

Gaelic Football every Friday. Wear school tracksuit and runners.

 

Swimming

Swimming every Wednesday until Hallowe'en holidays. Cost is E5 per week. Wear school tracksuit.

I hope that the first day back was better than was feared. We welcome Grace to our class. Grace has come from France. We hope that she settles in well with us and makes friends quickly.
